White Trash Beautiful, Teresa Mummert

Cass Daniels knew that knights in shining armor were for fairy tales and she accepted that she would spend the rest of her life trying to get out of the trailer park where she lives.

Tucker White was just starting to make a name for himself after not having the best childhood, his band ‘Damaged’ are on the edge of getting signed, but from the moment he met Cass everything changed.

I liked this book so much I ended up reading it in one sitting, couldn’t put it down. I liked the setting for the book and how Teresa gave the main characters both rubbish childhoods, the only difference between them in this book is Tucker’s life changed and Cass’s didn’t. But it shows the reader that you can change your life and that sometimes things happen for a reason.

Teresa touched on a lot of important issues with this book, violence, domestic abuse and drug abuse. It wasn’t a light read and for me there was some heart wrenching parts of the book but I likes how Tucker and Cass reacted to each other, straight away you knew that the moment they met would change both of their lives.

The moment Tucker entered the book, I fell in love with the description as well as his attitude towards Cass and throughout the book fell more and more in love with him, his openness and the way would treat Cass as if she were the only girl in the world, as if she was his world. Teresa wrote the ideal man, one with a bad boy side, but one that would never harm you and give you all the love you deserve, someone to protect you.

I felt that Cass’s home life could have played more of a part in the book, as when it came up it was just her coming back from work wishing Jax and her mum were passed out and then going to bed, waking up and going to work. Cass would tell you what Jax would do to her, and you’d see his change in personality when he wasn’t using. But the only time her home life came into the book full force was towards the end when Jax attacked her.

Throughout the book you watched Cass fight her feelings for Tucker because she had Jax at home and it was frustrating, sometimes I found myself wanting to shout at her to just leave Jax and be with Tucker. She was staying in this abusive relationship and it was to infuriating as Tucker kept laying his heart of the line for her and she kept leaving him, even when Jax was out of the picture she was still finding reasons to leave him, when all he wanted was her.

I am excited to read 'White Trash Damaged' to find out how their relationship turns out. I give this book a 3.5* rating.

Twisted, K.A. Robinson

Chloe and Drake left off on track, they got over the Logan drama and decided it was time to move forward as the couple they could be.

Following K.A. Robinson’s ‘Torn’ is the sequel ‘Twisted’ and I must say it didn’t disappoint, I will even go as far as saying I enjoyed it a lot more than the first book, which rarely happens. I liked that Chloe’s backstory of her mum beating her came into it full force. I was captivated in the way her mum had multiple personalities to try and get her way, but also the way her moods changed at sonic speed and she turned violent.

The characters were consistent with how they were in the first book, however Amber and Logan weren’t in it as much, instead were her cousin Danny and his friend Jordan. Her relationship with them was different to hers with Amber and Logan in the first book, but Danny and Jordan had the same job as Amber and Logan, protect Chloe from her psycho mum.  Throughout the entire book I would see myself comparing Jordan to Logan, even though the way they acted around her was different Jordan was more physical and playful whereas Logan was her best friend he didn’t need to touch her to show his affection.

Once one drama ended another began, if it wasn’t Chloe it was Drake and that’s what kept me on until the end. It pressed on some important topics, drugs and child abuse and each one ended the way you’d hope it to end before it gets taken too far. It shows the reader that you can battle it; you can change your life if you have something or someone to change it for, and I thought that hidden message was an important one.

As much as I enjoyed the book, the ending was a disappointment for me as I found it was a standard YA book ending almost an ‘they lived happily ever after’ ending which isn’t really how Chloe and Drake were, their relationship fed off of the passion and the drama that was around them. I thought up my own ending for their relationship, one that to me seemed more believable.

I enjoyed this book more than the first, therefore I give it a 3* rating.

Torn, K.A. Robinson

Chloe has never really wanted to be in a relationship after her abusive childhood. She has the two people that matter too her Logan and Amber, until Drake comes along and turns her life upside down.

Drake has the carefree life, he’s in a band and gets all the groupies, he is not the relationship type that is until Chloe walked into his class and everything changed.

I thought I would slowly work my way through the Tennessee Valley Author Event reading list starting from the top, being the Torn series. Halfway through reading Torn I realised I had already read it, yet reading it again I was still hooked even though I knew how it ended.

I enjoyed the love triangle drama that was included in this book, and I enjoyed watching the battle Chloe had to whether or not the love she felt for Logan was friendship or the real deal. However I found Chloe’s character quite irritating and agreed with everything Amber her best friend was saying to her. It got to the point where I was no longer routing for her, however I was routing for Drake to be with her as his character stole my heart.

Drake’s bad boy image, sarcastic and cocky personality made me love him, and I enjoyed seeing the other side of him when he was alone with Chloe or performing onstage, his lyrics always showed the reader how he was feeling. The sex scenes between Chloe and Drake in this book captivated me, the description and emotions were intense and you really felt the passion between the two characters. I enjoyed being able to compare the Chloe and Logan sex scenes with Chloe and Drakes as that’s where you can really tell who Chloe was really into. As Chloe described the sex with Logan as ‘nice’ I am sure the sex with Drake would be ‘mind blowing’.

I felt like Chloe’s back story played a big part in this book, because it explained why she is the way she is, and why she acts the way she does. Although you don’t really hear much about her back story just snippets here and there until she tells Drake the entire story and her mum calling doesn't really affect the story all that much, however does lead onto the next book.

I enjoyed this book and give it a 2.5 star rating.

Price of a Kiss, Linda Kage

Running from her psycho ex-boyfriend the last thing ‘Reese Randall’ needed was from Mason to come along with even more baggage.

Mason Lowe needed to keep his job to help support his family and that was that, he didn’t care what other people thought of him, until Reese came along, knowing he needed to keep his distance from her but he just couldn’t.

I thought the story line Linda Kage thought up was really good, it’s not every day you read a book about a college gigolo and end up routing for him and the girl to get together, but Linda got you to empathise with Mason and understand that he had to do this, he had to sell himself to help his family survive with his sisters medical bills and his mum not being able to afford rent, he needed to do this.

The connection between Mason and Reese had you wanting that relationship for yourself, they were best friends and could be themselves around each other – yes ‘Reese’  was hiding her real name from him, but that didn’t matter because when they were around each other they were both so real and the passion and chemistry between them was incredible. They both knew how they really felt about each other which is frustrating as Mason’s job kept them apart.

The book doesn’t drag at all and isn’t very repetitive, there any many different relationships throughout the book and Linda shows you that it doesn’t matter how different you are from someone you can be friends or more.  However I felt as if Eva, Reese’s cousin’s role in the book didn’t really mean anything she could have not been in the book and it would have been exactly the same. Sarah, Mason’s sister on the other hand helped the progression of their relationship seeing Mason in a different environment, relaxing and the love he has for his family showing through was incredible.

I connected with both of the characters on a physical and emotional level and it’s one of the first times I fell in love with the leading lady as well as the man. I really liked Reese’s awkwardness but also abruptness and I was able to relate to that, I also liked being able to understand what was going on in her head, read her thoughts so to say. The vulnerability Mason shows to Reese had my heart aching throughout, I also liked how he would be able to put that wall back up straight away as if nothing had happened, it showed you even more how vulnerable and broken he is.

I really enjoyed this book, and therefore give it a 4* rating.
